Jayant Silva is renowned for his mastery over both Western and Indian scripts, including Siddham, Devanagari, Bengali, Modi, Tamil, and English. His art explores a blend of contemporary and traditional themes across various mediums such as ink, watercolor, and gouache on multiple media. His innovative approach extends to creating letterforms through embroidery, engraving, embossing, cutting, and folding on diverse surfaces like wood, metal, textiles, and paper mache
Significant exhibitions include "Aksharayoga" at the Museum of Sacred Art, Belgium, "Textura' at Cymroza Art Gallery and "Land that lives through us" at Art and Charlie and "The Story of Writing" at Kathiwada City House, Mumbai. He has developed a system for the writing of a lost Indian script, Siddham, reintroduced by him in India after 800 years, at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He also conducts courses and workshops and has been a visiting faculty at CTES College of Architecture and Srishti Manipal Institute of Art and Design. His work has been featured in the international journal of Calligraphy - "Letter Arts Review" and various other publications and exhibitions worldwide. His private commissions include the Lodha Group (India), His Excellency, Nadir Patel, High Commissioner for Canada to India, Paro, Good Earth India Pvt Ltd. Album cover art for Grammy award nominee Jahnavi Harrison and Willow Smith’s music, Album cover art for Simrit, textile art for the Government of Singapore and works for other prominent figures and organizations.
Besides his art practice, Jayant has been involved in advanced research and development roles, from the Center for Advanced Information Processing in the USA to Nissan Global Research Center for Autonomous Vehicles in Japan. Currently, he enhances the science curriculum at Aseema Charitable Trust, serving over 2500 underprivileged children.
Jayant holds an M.Phil from Bhaktivedanta Institute (BITS Pilani, Mumbai) and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers University, USA. His academic expertise fuels his explorations in calligraphy, especially through the lens of computer vision. In the past he has developed letterform/ language based navigation for autonomous vehicles. He also explores the use of artificial intelligence with traditional calligraphy in a method he dubs Ai*Calligraphy. This technique merges handwritten forms with computational algorithms, fostering new expressions in calligraphy.
